The Kyiv Commercial Court granted a claim seeking more than 16 million UAH in damages caused by the Russian Federation’s armed aggression
The Kyiv Commercial Court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, ordering the Russian Federation to pay 16,050,120 UAH in property damages caused by its armed aggression.
The plaintiff was represented by attorney Daryna Vasylivna Kravchuk, who filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for damages caused by the unlawful actions of the aggressor state. The claims were based on the fact that the business suffered actual property damage as a result of the Russian Federation’s armed aggression.
The complaint sought joint and several recovery of damages from the Russian Federation, represented by its authorized bodies, as well as from the legal entities—defendants—joined under the alter ego doctrine.
Following its review of the case, the court concluded that the claims had been proven, that the evidence submitted was relevant and admissible, and that the calculation of the amount sought was well-founded. Consequently, the court ruled to recover UAH 16,050,120 in property damages from the Russian Federation in favor of the plaintiff.
It is important to note that such court decisions establish national precedent regarding compensation for damages caused by armed aggression and strengthen the legal mechanisms for protecting Ukrainian businesses. They also lay the groundwork for the further enforcement of such decisions, including through the assets of the aggressor state and its affiliated entities. This case is not only a successful example of defending a specific client’s interests, but also an important signal that legal liability for damages caused is inevitable. Even amid the ongoing war, Ukrainian courts are demonstrating their ability to ensure justice through legal means.
